Description
GCNSSC is seeking a Shelter Director for a Family Sanctuary Shelter which is a vital leadership role responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective operation of a shelter facility. This position requires exceptional managerial, organizational, and interpersonal skills to ensure the well-being of both shelter staff and residents. The Shelter Director plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe and supportive environment for individuals seeking refuge, assistance, and care. Will report to Deputy Executive Director. Responsibilities Operational Management: · Supervise and manage daily shelter operations, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and safety standards. · Coordinate the allocation and utilization of resources, including staff, budget, supplies, and equipment, to optimize shelter functionality. Staff Leadership: · Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate shelter personnel, fostering a cohesive and motivated team. · Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to staff to enhance their professional growth and commitment to the shelter’s mission. Resident Services: · Collaborate with social service providers and community organizations to deliver comprehensive services to shelter residents, such as counseling, healthcare, job assistance, and education. · Implement and maintain programs that promote residents’ self-sufficiency, empowerment, and successful transition to stable housing. Safety and Security: · Develop and enforce safety protocols to create a secure and nurturing environment for both residents and staff. · Ensure compliance with all legal and NY State regulatory requirements related to shelter operations. Budget and Reporting: · Prepare and manage the shelter’s budget, monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities. · Generate periodic reports (or milestones) on shelter activities, performance, and outcomes for presentation to senior management. Community Engagement: · Cultivate positive relationships with local authorities, community leaders, and organizations to garner support for our mission and initiatives. · Participate in community events, awareness campaigns, and fundraising activities to enhance the shelter’s visibility and impact.

Skills
Master’s degree in social work (MSW or LMSW), public administration, non-profit management, or a related field. · Proven experience in shelter management, social services, or a related field with a strong track record of leadership and staff supervision. · Comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and their ability to implement effective solutions. · Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. · Familiarity with local and federal regulations related to shelter operations and social services. · Commitment to the shelter’s mission and dedication to serving vulnerable populations with compassion and empathy. · Able to write and speak Spanish preferred.
